1) WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR A TREATMENT?
I use towels during the treatment and require you to keep your underwear on. Whilst carrying out postural assessments a vest top and shorts are helpful for the therapist. Women – bra and shorts; Men – shorts.
2) WHAT HAPPENS DURING A TREATMENT?
Initially thorough questioning will be necessary to establish the cause, area of concern and rehabilitation expectations or event timescales. A postural assessment is often necessary followed by specific problem area related joint or muscle range of movement assessments. A treatment plan will be discussed, followed by the hands-on treatment itself. Finally, rehabilitation exercises or homework will be provided to enable you to progress your rehabilitation post treatment.
3) IS SPORTS, REMEDIAL MASSAGE OR DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE PAINFUL?
No. Sports massage and deep tissue massage can be uncomfortable when locating areas of chronic tension. However, none of the massages or treatments should ever be painful. Often the objective is to encourage the muscles and other soft tissues to relax, and this can't be achieved using unnecessary, painful techniques. Muscles tense under pain which is counterproductive to the massage. To avoid any unnecessary discomfort, good communication between patient and practitioner is essential.
4) CAN I BRING SOMEONE WITH ME?
If it is your first time having a treatment, or you are a little nervous, then you are welcome to have someone such as a parent, partner or close friend with you.
5) HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT LAST?
A typical session lasts 50 minutes. This initial consultation or catch up regarding your injury or problem,for you to fill out a consent and medical history form (first appointment only) and for the treatment and rehabilitation discussion to take place. If you require a longer or shorter appointment just let me know.
6) HOW DO I PAY FOR THE MASSAGE OR TREATMENT?
Payment can be made by cash, cheque or BACS. If paying by cash, please have the correct amount because change may not always be available. Cheques are payable to E Woodley. Payment is made at the end of each visit.
7) HOW MANY MASSAGES OR TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
As few as possible. I am proud to say that my reputation has been built by helping people. When people are happy with a service, they tell people, and that is how I like to do business. With that said, it is important to be realistic with your expectations. For chronic pain or injury, it is unlikely that just one treatment will get you back on track. For more simple complaints, one visit and some specific rehabilitation exercises may be all you need.
8) DO I NEED ANY PAPERWORK?
The only two things that you need with you are the appropriate clothing, and payment for your massage or treatment, unless I have requested that you have copies of healthcare notes from a GP, for example.
9) WHEN CAN I SEE YOU? WHAT HOURS DO YOU WORK?
I am very flexible with appointment times. 8.30 is usually the first appointment in the day and there are some evenings that I can fit in a treatment too. I tend not to book appointments on Saturdays or Sundays.
10) WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER THE MASSAGE OR TREATMENT?
This depends entirely on the type of massage or treatment you have received. Aftercare advice will be discussed with you in detail at the end of each visit. However, please feel free to ask any questions if there is something in particular you would like to know about. It is recommended that you drink extra water following a deep tissue massage due to the toxins that have been disturbed and moved around the body.
11) ARE YOU, THE PRACTITIONER, FULLY QUALIFIED?
Yes. I am a fully qualified BTEC Level 5 Clinical Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist. I hold a valid First Aid at Work certificate. I have Full membership of the Institute of Sports and Remedial Massage (ISRM), and am a member of Complimentary & Natural Healthcare Council. I'm also fully insured by Balens Insurance.
The ISRM acts as a main governing body, in order that you may find a qualified, approved sports massage practitioner. The ISRM maintains the standards for sports massage practitioners, sports massage training organisations and provides regulation and a National Register for sports massage practitioners.
It is important to remember that a successful treatment requires good communication between the therapist and the client at all times, if you have any other questions please contact me to discuss them prior to your appointment.
